Opened to the general public in September 2021, the Athenaeum is a modern art house located at 287 West Wide St., on the northwestern tip of UGA’s campus.

The constructing alone functions a gallery space, a workspace and a studying place of curated texts and albums that can be played on a report participant.

Katie Geha, director of the galleries at the Lamar Dodd University of Artwork, renovated the setting up right after decades of campaigning for the art faculty to have a room downtown. In the spirit of community outreach, the Athenaeum runs a youth group for nearby kids. The Youth Space at Athenaeum, or YSA, is an internship program exactly where local middle and high schoolers can build some of the Athenaeum’s community programming.

When the group was presented with a tiny great deal behind the Athenaeum, they arrived up with their latest undertaking: a group artwork backyard where they can grow herbs and vegetables as properly as host Athenaeum functions.
