Call to Artists for 2022 PaintBox Program Announced

Nearby artists are invited to apply to paint City-owned utility packing containers with their authentic styles.

Mayor Michelle Wu and the Mayor’s Business office of Arts & Society, in collaboration with the Boston Art Commission, the Boston Transportation Section, and Community Will work, right now announced applications are open for the 2022 PaintBox Application. Every single yr, artists are commissioned through this software to paint utility packing containers in neighborhoods across the metropolis and add to the vitality of the urban streetscape.

“This is a terrific possibility to aid Boston’s emerging artists and to carry artwork that uplifts and evokes people to each and every road corner,” explained Kara Elliott-Ortega, Main of Arts and Lifestyle. “We love viewing the exhilaration that this program brings to artists and people each and every year, and we look forward to looking at what this new team of artists makes.”

The City will notify selected artists in June, and boxes have to be done by Oct 1, 2022. Artists will receive a $500 stipend for painting their box.

PaintBox was first launched in 2008 by the Town of Boston, in collaboration with the Boston Artwork Fee, the Mayor’s Business office of Community Products and services and the neighborhood beautification program Really like Your Block (previously Boston Shines). In 2021, 83 bins ended up painted throughout 13 Boston neighborhoods as component of the program.

“After collaborating in PaintBox I sense like a much better artist and neighbor,” claimed 2021 PaintBox artist Emma Tavolieri. “I had a blast throughout the whole system creating a style and design, acquiring supplies, checking out a new neighborhood, chatting to inhabitants, and leaving my mark on the city I really like.”
